Head Girl

Aminata Sheriff has been voted by the pupils to be head girl supported by Matilda Fofanah and Kadija Turay from class six. They have been sworn in and have given a speech addressing everybody, thank you girls for taking up this responsibility, we wish you luck!

New School Building to be Completed in January

Orkidstudio have committed to returning to Sierra Leone in January 2016 to complete the school building. We are, of course, delighted that at last we will see our own school building completed and can hardly wait to move everybody into it.

Extra Lessons and Back to School

Reopen
Fortunately, none of the Swawou girls have been directly affected by Ebola.
We have reopened the school in rented premises until our building can be finished and everybody is happy to be back to school at last.

Farm

Swawou has started a school farm at the site of the new school, planting crops including okra, cassava and potatoes. We also have future plans to introduce livestock (chickens and goats) to the farm. The crops grown will be used for our school lunch programme, providing healthy nutritious lunches for the girls.

The Variety of Life event and art auction took place in Edinburgh this April. It was a huge success, kindly organised by Alice Nelson.

£1140 was raised for Orkidstudio to help towards the completion of Swawou’s new school building. Thank you Alice!
